Certificate in Environmental Forensics
for the 2010 Spring term
The Certificate in Environmental Forensics is provided by the College of Pharmacy by offering courses in collaboration with The University of Canberra. The certificate is designed to give the environment law enforcement officer a background in the principles of contaminant analysis and transport in the environment with the ultimate aim of determining liability for pollution. Environmental Forensics 1 covers the main modes of contaminant transport in air, water and land, as well as an in-depth look at hydrocarbon fingerprinting. Environmental Forensics 2 is problem-based where the skills and knowledge learned in Environmental Forensics 1are applied to real-world case studies. Lab QA/QC teaches the key components of QA/QC and will help students to understand the need to produce sound scientific data using appropriate standards and controls, written procedures and method validation. General Toxicology provides the fundamental concepts of toxicology as they relate to specific organ and tissue systems. Toxic Substances will provide in-depth information on physiological, pharmacological and toxic effects of chemical toxins and carcinogens.
The certificate is aimed at professionals working in the environmental regulatory authorities and laboratories at the federal, state or local level. This includes but is not limited to:
- Police jurisdictions
- Environmental Protection Agencies (EPAs)
- Coast Guards
- Park Rangers
- Customs and Quarantine officials
On completion of the 15-credit certificate program students will receive a University of Florida Certificate in Environmental Forensics.
